Hidden Dragon Yoga Teacher Training is a well-established school of yoga, registered with Yoga Alliance® at the 200-hour level, and recognized as a Registered Yoga School (RYS) as of 2015. Our highly-skilled instructors bring over 40 years combined experience to impart students with a deep understanding of yogic practices and philosophy. Hidden Dragon Yoga Teacher Training offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of technique, applied anatomy and biomechanics, as well as methodology to further your own journey and inspire others.

Directed by Desirae Penton, owner of Hidden Dragon Yoga, the HDY Teacher Training Program incorporates skillful practitioners with time-honored techniques so that graduates may educate others effectively, safely, and purposefully in a moderately heated environment. This program is open to anyone seeking to deepen their study of yoga, and to those who wish to become yoga instructors.

Hidden Dragon Yoga serves individuals at all levels in their yoga practice, viewing the body as a sacred instrument of alignment and reunion with the Divine. Our mission is to encourage and promote each student’s individual growth and self-expression using an alignment-based practice from the heart. Together, we strive to build a strong, diverse yoga community and foster an environment in which every student feels welcomed, safe, and empowered.

What to expect…

In addition to your regular yoga practice, you will incorporate self-study, complete homework assignments or readings, and participate in regular testing as you advance through the program. Here’s what it takes to succeed in teacher training:

  • Willingness to actively listen and learn

  • Contribute to the group and be engaged

  • Keep an open heart and mind

  • Refrain from judgment

  • Arrive on time

  • Respect your teachers and community – honor this experience by being the best you can be

  • Maintain a daily practice – it is through our own journey that we may inspire others

Desirae Penton

Owner – ERYT 500 – Yoga Alliance

Desirae’s journey with yoga in 1997 due to sports injuries. With a dear friend,  in the summer of 2013 she opened Hidden Dragon Yoga. Since opening Hidden Dragon she has seen what yoga is truly all about. The community, growth, compassion and love in a studio’s space has much more to do with the building. It is the people and fur babies within the walls. #LoveTheJourney

Amy Morris

ERYT 200 – Yoga Alliance – HDYTT

Having spent years as a massage therapist and professional dancer Amy found an immediate connection to the physical aspects of Asana, but was surprised to discover the mental and spiritual peace she had been seeking as well.  Amy’s passion to share this unity of mind, body, and spirit is what brought her to HDY’s teacher training program.  She is honored to teach and practice with her kula.

A self-described Anatomy Geek, Amy loves to take the knowledge gained from years of massage training, and apply it to alignment based yoga. Her goal is to spark the students interest in the “why and how” the body works, to successfully accomplish (and teach) the asanas.

Joan Brinkworth

200 Hr – Yoga Alliance – HDYTT, 200 Hr – Black Swan Yoga

Joan found yoga in early 2003.  It became this instant love, the movements seemed intuitive. Some of them she had played around with since childhood. In the course of her practice she has sustained some injuries that have seemed daunting, but in hindsight allowed her practice to grow in other ways. Thankfully these lessons brought her to the decision to teach. She wants to share with others what has become so dear to her.

I love getting to talk about philosophical ideas through the ancient texts, and be able to apply them to current daily life. Group discussions where we authentically relate to one another about our experiences on and off the mat create a unity within the training groups that is valuable and supportive.
